Attempted Residential Home Burglary - HOPPINGWOOD AVENUE, NEW MALDEN, KINGSTON UPON THAMES, KT3

Dear Resident,

Metropolitan Police are investigating a report of an attempted burglary on HOPPINGWOOD AVENUE, NEW MALDEN.

The incident occurred between 18:25 hours - 18:35 hours on 11/06/2025. Neighbour has heard a tapping noise from their back garden which they descried as someone tapping on glass coming from their back garden, when the neighbour looked over their fence, they have seen an unknown male crouched down by the rear of their neighbours’ French doors with a metal type pole in his hand. The neighbour has confronted the unknown white male who has left the back garden by climbing a ladder over the back fence and warned if he returns, they will call the police. Update: Attending officers have contacted victim and investigated rear garden of victims address and could not see any immediate damage to the French doors. Suspect has been described to be a white male of slim build, F5"10 in height, between 40 - 50 years of age, stubble, grey hair, black jacket with a zig zag front and over the back.  

If you have any CCTV footage (including video doorbell), saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area around this time or have any information about the offenders please contact the police on the non-emergency number 101 quoting occurrence ref: 01/7610075/25 Alternatively you could call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. While we will continue to pursue burglars in the area, there are steps you can do to help keep your property safe. Make sure that you:  

  • Double lock your door every time you leave the house  
  • If you can, move garden furniture or bins away from windows so that thieves cannot use them to gain access.  
  • If you can, secure ladders in your shed or garage with a good quality padlock and a heavy-duty chain 
  • Use a sash stop if you have sash windows to prevent people opening them enough to climb through.  
  • If your windows open outwards, use a key operated lock – check these are locked before leaving the house.  
  • Make sure all valuables are out of sight. 
  • Keep handbags and keys away from letterboxes or cat flaps.  
  • In the evening shut the curtains and leave lights on.  
  • Set your burglar alarm 
  • Lock your shed or garage 
  • Mark, register or record your valuables.
